A Carleton College Wedding held at Skinner Memorial Chapel was the perfect fit for Eavan & Chris, for it was where their story together began. What started as attending the college tradition date day ended in beginning the love story of these two as they found each other with the code names “Chips” and “Salsa.” Handkerchiefs were absolute necessities for this day. So many happy tears!

Carleton College Architecture

The charm of Carleton’s east coast buildings lent an academic air to this day, so perfect for those who have pursued higher education in their fields! Eavan finished her PhD just before the wedding day. I loved incorporating some science books into Eavan’s dress moments to highlight her devotion and loyalty to her field. The getting ready space of the library was perfect!

In addition to campus buildings, Skinner Memorial Chapel provided the scenic landscape for much of the portraits I took. Arches, stairways, and vaulted ceilings all have their place in conveying the beauty of this ceremony. These two truly shine after their ceremony during portraits by the south doors!

Personal and Sweet Details

I love it when couples truly make the day their own. Eavan and Chris gave a few nods to their beloved cat, Gus. First, for Chris’ suit Eavan gave the gift of Gus cufflinks (scroll to view!) and secondly, Gus made an appearance on their save the date. To acknowledge the Carleton customs, the couple used custom frisbees in lieu of a guestbook for guests to sign. Eavan & Chris made sure that the lighthearted and fun parts of their relationship were on display. It was such a joy to see guests relax in the Great Hall, with ceilings draped in soft white fabric. Speeches were heartfelt, bringing the tears always up to the eyes of the groom and family members so happy for these two to join in marriage.

Eavan & Chris, Thank you so much for trusting me to capture your wedding moments. You are such sweet and caring people, filled with generosity and grace. I truly loved capturing the elegance and genuine laughter that flowed through your day.

Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota offers wedding spaces through several venues on campus. Severance Great Hall and the Weitz Center are reception halls, and ceremonies can take place at Monument Hill outdoors or inside Skinner Memorial Chapel. Getting ready spaces are available to rent through the Alumni Guest House (the library area is a part of this, pictured in this feature!)
