What a joy it was to spend Erin & Ryan’s wedding day at the historic Round Barn Farm in Red Wing — one of the last standing round barns in all of Minnesota! Dressed in soft steel blue and navy, Erin & Ryan said “I do” on 35 acres of rolling fields and bluffs, surrounded by a family so close-knit and warm that it felt like a family reunion. It was one of the hottest days of the summer, and yet everyone couldn’t help celebrating this amazing couple.
The History Round Barn
There’s something about a 1914 round barn that makes you slow down and take it in — the curved timber walls, the fields stretching out in every direction, the quiet sense that generations of Minnesota history are standing right there with you. Round Barn Farm is one of only a small handful of round barns left in the entire state, and it gave Erin & Ryan’s ceremony a backdrop that felt both grand and completely unpretentious.
Before the ceremony, Erin & Ryan shared a private vow exchange — just the two of them, tucked in the copse near the gazebo. It was one of my favorite moments of the day, watching them steady each other and share tears before stepping into the fullness of the day. Erin wore soft steele blue accents through her details, echoed in her bridesmaids’ dusty blue gowns, and the whole palette felt like it belonged on this land — soft, timeless, a little romantic.
But what struck me most, watching through my lens, was the family. This was not my first time photographing an Anderson family wedding — I had the honor of photographing Ryan’s sister’s wedding years ago, and stepping back into this family for Erin & Ryan’s day felt like coming home. So much has changed since then. The family has grown by an entire generation of little ones — nieces and nephews who wore their mini tuxedos, bow ties, and mini dresses to match Erin’s palette. In the middle of all, Erin & Ryan shone with the joy of their day. As Ryan’s brother so colorfully explained in his reception speech, Erin is his perfect fit as well as a true part of the Anderson family. With her humor and graciousness, it was almost hard to imagine the Anderson clan without her. Watching Erin’s parents and Ryan’s parents join together with such warmth of purpose, it was clear that everyone was beaming with delight at this union.
An Outdoor Celebration Under the Summer Sun
Minnesota gave Erin & Ryan one of the hottest days of the year for their wedding, and they faced it head on. The ceremony was held outdoors on the farm’s grounds for the entire celebration, as well as dinner and dancing, fields and big open sky as the only ceiling anyone needed. There’s a particular kind of joy that comes out of a hot summer day spent outside with people you love, and it showed on every face at Round Barn Farm that evening.
This Little Piggy Catering kept everyone fed, Hitch & Sip kept the drinks flowing, and DJ Hunter Quinn had the dance floor moving well into the night. But it was the family moments that stayed with me most — watching Ryan’s nieces and nephews run through the property, watching the newest little Andersons (there are so many now!) toddle around in their wedding best, watching aunts and uncles and cousins gather for photo after photo without a single complaint about the heat. This is a family that shows up for each other, fully and joyfully, and cherishing the beauty Erin brings. By the end of the night, watching her laugh with her new sisters-in-law and dance with her father-in-law, it was obvious: this wasn’t just a wedding. It was a family getting bigger, on purpose, with love.
Letter to the Couple
Erin & Ryan, the way you care for each other and laugh your days away is truly an example for being your spouse’s best friend. Ryan, watching you on your wedding day, steady and sure and so clearly smitten, was a gift. Erin, you faced the heat so bravely and lived each moment so fully. I cannot get over your first look! That quiet moment you two shared before the ceremony, just the two of you exchanging your private vows, is exactly the kind of foundation I hope carries you through every season ahead — a steadiness and joy through the hot days and the easy ones alike. Thank you for trusting me with your memories, and for welcoming me back into your family. I pray your marriage is full of the same closeness, laughter, and grace I watched fill Round Barn Farm and the fields on your wedding day.
With Love,
Jennifer

Round Barn Farm is a historic bed and breakfast and wedding venue tucked into 35 acres of fields, woodlands, and bluffs just outside Red Wing, Minnesota, about an hour southeast of the Twin Cities. Its centerpiece — a striking round barn built in 1914 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places — is one of the last of its kind still standing in Minnesota, giving every wedding held here a true sense of place and history. Reclaimed fir floors, sophisticated country antiques, and rolling countryside views in every direction exude the charming barn aesthetic. I love this venue for the way it lets a couple’s family spread out and truly celebrate together, indoors and out, on land that already has a hundred years of stories in it.
