On the sun-warmed lawn of the historic Turnblad Mansion in Minneapolis, surrounded by family who had traveled from Toronto, Albania, Seattle, and beyond, these two said their vows with the kind of joy that only comes from truly knowing how precious each moment is. This was a day that celebrated love, yes — but also the sacrifices of devoted parents, the gift of health hard-won, and the miracle of gathering everyone who matters under one sky.

Ceremony on the Historic Turnblad Mansion Lawn

The American Swedish Institute is one of Minneapolis’s storied landmarks, and Allie & Leno made the most of every corner. Captured Blossoms brought the floral vision to life in a palette of sage, soft white, and the most delicate hints of light pink against the century-old stone of the Turnblad Mansion. For the ceremony, a reserved seat dressed with a sign and roses held space for those who couldn’t be there — a tender detail that whispered their names without a word.

Allie was stunning in her Wtoo by Watter gown from Anthropologie Weddings — a silhouette so clean, modern, and effortlessly elegant. The bridesmaids moved down the aisle in shades of green and golden pattern, like a garden themselves upon the steps. Officiant Dave led Allie and Leno through vows under the open sky, surrounded by the faces of every person who shaped them. Little ring bearer Wesley stole a few hearts on his way down the aisle. The ceremony felt intimate, intentional, and full.

Handwritten Notes & Albanian Dances

The reception was no less intentional. One floral arrangement stood quietly apart: designed in Allie’s late grandmother’s silver vessel, the bar decor carried the weight of memory and love right into the heart of the celebration. At every place setting, each guest discovered a handwritten, personal note — written by Allie and Leno themselves, addressed specifically to them. One by one, as guests found their seats and unfolded their notes, something moved through the room like a wave. Tears. Laughter. Hands pressed to hearts. Stunned, overwhelmed smiles. These were not just people who knew they were loved — they held it, physically, in their hands. In a world of group texts and quick tags, Allie and Leno chose the most personal gesture imaginable, and capturing the unfolding of those moments was such a treasure.

The toasts and speeches reflected a day saturated in thankfulness — gratitude for parents who gave everything, for Allie’s courageous journey overcoming cancer, and for a love that had outlasted distance and difficulty. Allie, the fact that you are here, healthy, radiant, and dancing — it is its own kind of miracle, and I don’t think a single person in that room took it for granted. You built a day that held all of it — grief and gladness, past and future, Albanian rhythms and Minnesota historic beauty — and it was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever had the honor of witnessing. May your marriage be as generous, as joyful, and as full of tangible love as the day you began it.

The American Swedish Institute is a cultural landmark nestled in the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota — it features a blend of the historic with the modern. The jewel of the ASI campus is the historic Turnblad Mansion, a stunning 1908 chateauesque masterpiece whose lawn provides a ceremony backdrop unlike anything else in the Twin Cities. Inside, the ASI’s event spaces offer an elegant, elevated atmosphere for cocktail hour that transitions to an outdoor reception space in the courtyard for approximately 130–150 guests. The richness of the architecture — detailed ironwork, carved wood, and light-filled galleries — means that every corner tells a story. I love photographing at the American Swedish Institute because the layers of history and beauty in this venue create images that feel truly timeless.
