Nothing can be more thrilling to me than a hometown wedding–especially one in Northfield, Minnesota! (Seriously, local is best!) Selena & Kyle’s wedding at the Church of St. Dominic took stage on one of the last gorgeous days of fall, and how the sun shone! One of my favorite moments took place during the reception at the Northfield Ballrooms–during the first dances. I can honestly say that I have never fully cried at a wedding. I’m simply too happy and smiling! Selena & Kyle’s first dances, however, had me tearing up.
As Kyle and his mother spun to their song, both held each other with such tenderness and such love. I could see the delight of entering marriage and also the pain in change of allegiance. There once was a time I despised first dances because it always felt like they lasted too long. Now I treasure them because it holds a valuable space on the busy wedding day for two people to be close, and for everyone else to pause the festivities. To see a groom letting the tears out is fierce to behold. Selena’s dance with her father was followed by a surprise dance with her mother – in feisty and fun style!
Selena & Kyle,
Thank you for trusting me to capture your first day as Mr. & Mrs! Selena, you have a smile that lights up a room and a graciousness that makes everyone around you feel comfortable. Kyle, you have such strength in your leadership, and such amazing humor! I bless your new family with peace as you begin a beautiful marriage!
